  • 2 racks pork back ribs (2 1/2 to 3 pounds each, cut into 3- or 4-rib sections)
  • 2 cups hoisin sauce
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 3 Tbsp. fresh ginger root (grated)
  • 3 Tbsp. sesame oil
  • 3 scallions (green only, thinly sliced, optional)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sesame seeds (toasted*, optional)

    1. In a medium bowl, combine the hoisin sauce, pineapple juice, ginger, and sesame oil. Arrange the ribs in a slow cooker and pour half of the sauce mixture over the ribs. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, until the ribs are very tender. Set the remaining sauce aside in the refrigerator.
    2. About 1/2 hour before the ribs are done, remove the sauce from the refrigerator, to bring it to room temperature.
    3. Arrange the ribs on plates or a platter and brush both sides with some of the remaining sauce. Sprinkle with the scallions and sesame seeds, if using. Serve the rest of the remaining sauce at the table.
    4. Serves 6 (4 ribs per serving)
    5. * You can find hoisin sauce and sesame oil in the ethnic or Asian section of most major supermarkets.

    Very delicious. Great flavor. My husband liked it so much he had a second plate. Having the extra sauce to add during serving made the dish even better. I left out the scallions, sesame oil, and sesame seed and added a couple tablespoons of brown sugar.

    Unfortunately the amount of sauce the recipe tells you to make wasn't enough for me for some reason? Aside from that everything was perfect. It was one of the few toddler approved main dishes I've made in a while which is saying a lot. I'll definitely make this again, but with more sauce.

    My family LOVED the sauce! So good! Lots of left over sauce as well. Be sure to put quite a bit on your ribs after cooking them because it soaks it all up in the slow cooker. I put them at high for 6 hours in the slow cooker and they were perfect! I would highly reccomend. Very flexible to schedule too, since there isnt really need of supervision and extra stuff.

    this recip3 was just amazing!
    My sister made this recipe first and absolutely raved about it! So I gave it a try and have to say they are delicious!! I have made them for family several times and they always turn out great! I am not a huge fan of fresh ginger, so I used 1 teaspoon of Ground Ginger, but that is totally up to your taste. Amazing recipe! Thanks for sharing!

    These ribs were amazing. After I put the remaining sauce over them I broiled for 5 mins to give them a bit of crunch. I will definitely make this again!
