  • 1 lb. spicy Italian sausage (can use mild)
  • 5 Tbsp. unsalted butter (separated)
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 3/4 cup carrots
  • 3/4 cup diced celery
  • 3/4 cup diced yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 4 cups baby gold potatoes (chopped)
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 4 cups chicken stock (or chicken broth)
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 cups 1% milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 cups extra sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (fat free is great)
  • 1 tsp. dried parsley

    It was really rich- I would make it with different sausage next time. Did add more seasoning to it as well (garlic salt, oregano, pepper, chili powder)

    This is one of my favorite recipes. We go fishing a lot and I throw fish into this as well. My kids claim they hate fish but I hide it in this soup and it really comes out like a delicious fish/sausage chowder!

    Really good! I substituted 2 cups Half & Half instead of the milk and heavy cream. I also substituted nettle leaf instead of parsley cuz parsley makes me gag. 😉 My husband loved it, too. I will make this again.

    Flavor was wonderful. Easy to make, I will try some Kale or spinach in the next batch. My husband liked it! So much dairy, I’ll try and lighten it up next time.

    Couldn’t find any spicy Italian sausage so added red pepper flakes to the mild sausage… Loved this recipe! Will definitely be a fall favorite!

    Followed recipe exactly. Big hit with the family. We used a bag of shredded carrots instead of diced and we also added frozen kale and it was a nice addition. Will make again. :)

    this turned out wonderful even my 5 year old daughter loved it it did how ever make to much which my fault i should have halfed it.. the recipe directions were a little confusing should have done better break down but i did finally get it. 10\10 hit thank you for this

    I’ve made this so many times for meal prep. It freezes well and I love the taste. I used mild sausage as I’m not a spicy person.
