  • 2 onions (finely chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
  • 4 sprigs thyme (leaves picked and finely chopped)
  • 1 celery stick (finely diced)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (tomato purée, to taste)
  • 9 carrots (unpeeled)
  • 100 milliliters red wine
  • 500 milliliters beef stock

  • 50 grams caster sugar
  • 125 grams unsalted butter

    Perfect, missed out the celery as didn’t have any but would add next time. Added a table spoon of balsamic vinegar as well. Normal mash as I would normally make it. Rich and delicious, family enjoyed it too which is a bonus!

    Best cottage pie by a country mile! Outstanding. Didn’t bother doing the fancy carrots and used normal mash.
