  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder (for cake)
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt (scant, for cake)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3 Tbsp. heavy cream (plus more as needed)
  • 1/8 tsp. salt (for frosting)

    Directions

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
    2. Line two 12-cup cupcake pans with paper liners. Set aside.
